| Description: Nicolas Sarkozy Free Screensaver. Photos slideshow. Nicolas Sarkozy, (born Nicolas Paul Stephane Sarkozy de Nagy-Bocsa on 28 January 1955 in Paris, France) is the current President of France, elected on 6 May 2007 after defeating Socialist Party contender Segolene Royal during the second round of the 2007 election. Before his presidency, he was leader of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) right wing party. Under Jacques Chirac's presidency, he served as the Minister of the Interior in Jean-Pierre Raffarin (UMP)'s first two governments.In April 2004, he became Minister of Economy and Finances His father was from Hungarian nobility, who immigrated to France after the Soviet occupation of Hungary in WWII, and his mother was of Greek and Jewish descent. Head of the French conservative party UMP and the winner of the 2007 presidential elections. Has three sons: Pierre (born in 1985) and Jean (born in 1987) with his first wife Marie-Dominique Culioli, Louis (born in 1997) with his second wife Cecilia Albeniz. Minister of the Interior from 7 May 2002 to 31 March 2004 and from 31 May 2005 to 26 March 2007. Was elected President of France, the sixth in the Fifth Republic, in the second round of the 2007 election by 53.06pcent of the votes (6 May 2007). Has two brothers, Guillaume (born in 1951) and Francois (born in 1957). Several celebrities including Johnny Hallyday, Jean Reno, Christian Clavier, Charlotte Rampling and Mireille Mathieu supported his 2007 electoral campaign. |
