| Description: weakPasswords is a cross-platform (java) tool that allows system administrators to find out if their user community has poor passwords. This tool allows shared resources (typically databases) to be interrogated using known user ids and a custom set of passwords.
Since each interrogation is an independent thread, it runs as fast as it can. Once a password is discovered, all threads are notified of the discovery. (Most users have one password for all systems.)
The point is that disgruntled internal users can cause a lot more damage than some random external hacker. Internal folks know virtually everything about the system they are going to attack, especially *how and where* maximum damage can be inflicted. |
